LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines— The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded an ash explosion in Mayon Volcano early Wednesday, which caused ash fall in Albay towns located southwest and northwest of the volcano.

MANILA - Four suspected members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) were captured in a military operation Saturday in Sorsogon province.

Lt. Col. Lito Sobejana, Army’s 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion commander, identified the alleged rebels as Beato Latosa, 35-year-old Amadeo Grayda of Juban town in Sorsogon, 38-year-old Nilo Escullar of Barcelona town and 18-year-old Ernesto Labadia of Bulan town.

Latosa is allegedly the assistant leader of Platoon Number 1 of the NPA and which allegedly operates in Magallanes town

"It's apt for the House is to focus on measures to curb the abuses of the oil companies and to impose some regulation on the industry. For the sake of consumers, we hope that House Bills 3029 and 3030 that aim to replace the Oil Deregulation Law (RA. 8479) are fast-tracked into law to give government the legal teeth to put some order in the oil industry for the same of consumers," Ocampo said.
