Militant group spokesman shot dead in Bicol

A spokesman of a militant group was shot dead in Camarines Sur province in Bicol, a radio report said Wednesday.

Radio dzXL said Bayan Muna spokesman Rodrigo de Torres was on his way home in Del Gallego town when at least seven unidentified armed men opened fire on him.

De Torres, 40, was aboard his motorcycle when he was ambushed, the report said.

Police are investigating the motive behind the incident.

Investigators are verifying testimonies by witnesses that the assailants were armed with M-16 rifles.

The killing took place on the eve of the visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Militant groups had vowed to stage protests against Clinton's visit to the Philippines, en route to Singapore to attend a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). - GMANews.TV
